Originally developed as a vehicle for making the arts more accessible to students, The Artist Series has certainly broadened its focus over the years. Forty-six years after making its debut at the local college, The Artist Series has become the primary source for national and international professional productions in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
From Blockbuster Broadway shows to cultural programs from around the world, The Artist Series brings quality entertainment to individuals of all ages and all tastes. Its unique blend of musical and dramatic presentations attracts one of the largest audiences in the Southeast.
The 2011-2012 season - The Artist Series' 46th - follows seasons that have included WICKED, Disney's THE LION KING, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE PRODUCERS the Mel Brooks Musical, MISS SAIGON, MAMMA MIA and SPAMALOT. The current season continues the tradition and excitement with the Jacksonville premiere engagement of JERSEY BOYS, at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts. The 2011-2012 Broadway in Jacksonville Season also includes the spectacular productions SOUTH PACIFIC, DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST which is also this season’s annual Family Night on Broadway, LES MISERABLES, and the Season Special WICKED!
The current season features Broadway, Off Broadway, International Dance, International Opera, Family, and the Concert & Variety Series. Performances will be held at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts and the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts. With over 150 performances available, First Coast theatergoers have a myriad of opportunities to experience Jacksonville's cultural and entertainment scene.
