Jacksonville’s 2013-2014 Season Will Include War Horse, Blue Man Group and More

A trusty horse and a trio of blue men are heading to Jacksonville. The 2013-2014 Broadway season will feature the 2011 Best Play winner, War Horse, as well as the international phenomenon Blue Man Group. The season lineup will also include Flashdance, Memphis, Million Dollar Quartet and Mamma Mia! All shows will play the Moran Theatre Times Union Center.

Mamma Mia! tells the story of a bride-to-be who never met her father. After snooping in her mother's diary, the daughter invites three likely paternal candidates to her wedding, hoping to identify her dad by the time she walks down the aisle. The show includes 22 ABBA hits, including "Dancing Queen," "Super Trouper," "Take a Chance on Me" and "The Winner Takes It All." The dance party will begin on October 18, 2013 and run through October 19.

Flashdance will shimmy into Jacksonville from December 10, 2013 through December 15. Based on the hit 1983 movie, Flashdance tells the story of Alex, a working-class girl from Pittsburgh striving to make her dreams of becoming a professional dancer a reality. The show features the hit songs from the movie, “Flashdance—What a Feeling,” “Maniac” and 10 original songs.

Blue Man Group will land on the Jacksonville stage from January 21, 2014 through January 26.The international hit centers on three alien-like men all in blue. The non-speaking but friendly characters guide the audience through a hilarious, eye-popping spectacle that incorporates percussive music, visual tricks, bold lighting and fascinating facts about our world. It’s a sensory overload that will delight all ages.

War Horse, winner of five Tony Awards, will run from February 18, 2014 through February 23. Using extraordinary puppets, War Horse tells the story of young Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of World War I. Albert, unable to forget Joey and still not old enough to enlist, embarks on a mission to find his horse and bring him home.

Set in the turbulent south in the 1950s, Memphis is the rollicking story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. A Tony winner for Best Musical, Memphis is a powerful story about fame and forbidden love. The musical opens on March 18, 2014 and closes on March 23.

Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins will rock Jacksonville in Million Dollar Quartet from April 22, 2014 through April 27. Set at Sun Records in Memphis in 1956, Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the twist of fate that brought the four music legends together for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has become known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time.
