Lin-Manuel Miranda Says There Will be a Hamilton Movie

June 1st, 2016 | By Imogen Lloyd Webber

Hamilton will be a movie, but Lin-Manuel Miranda thinks we'll have to wait for it to blow us all away. The gargantuan Broadway hit’s creator and star told Rolling Stone that there would be a screen adaptation: “Someday. Probably not for, like, 20 years.” Sorry, NBC.

Which film versions of musicals does Miranda think have worked? “Well, there are some really good ones, but I will tell you, they're all 20 years after the fact." After citing Les Miz and Chicago, he named Cabaret as a perfectly marvelous adaptation. "Like, you couldn't do that film onstage. So someone's going to have to have the brilliant idea of how to make this [Hamilton] into a film on its own terms.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Miranda won’t be working in Hollywood in the near future. It’s just been confirmed that the certified genius will star opposite Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns and that mega-movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has taken control of his In the Heights.

Hamilton is playing at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and is nominated for a record-breaking 16 Tonys on June 12. But you already knew that.
